WHO online consultation: Development of a set of WHO “Best Buys” and other recommended interventions to address Mental Health conditions  (Deadline: 20 September 2020)

As a service to G2H2 members and other civil society organizations engaged with the World Health Organization, we draw your attention to a current online consultation published on the WHO website as follows:

“Development of a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions to support Member States in implementing the commitments included in the political declaration of the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of NCDs diseases to promote mental health and well-being

Assignment given to the WHO Secretariat by the World Health Assembly: Paragraph 3.b of decision WHA72(11) requests the WHO Director-General “building on the work already under way, to prepare and update, as appropriate, a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions to support Member States in implementing the commitments included in the political declaration of the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of NCDs (2018) to promote mental health and well-being, for consideration by the Health Assembly in 2020, through the Executive Board”.

In response to decision WHA72(11), the process which the WHO Secretariat is following to develop a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions is as follows:

  • 20-21 August 2019: Expert consultation on the development of a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions;
  • 2-20 September 2019: Web-based consultation on a discussion paper dated 2 September 2019 (see below) on the work underway to develop a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions. The web-based consultation is open to Member States, UN organizations and other international organizations, and non-State actors. All relevant feedback received will be published on this website;
  • 30 September 2019: WHO Secretariat will submit a report to WHO Governing Bodies Secretariat (GBS) proposing a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions for consideration by Member States during the 146th session of the WHO Executive Board;
  • 3-8 February 2020: The 146th session of the WHO Executive Board will consider a menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions, and will be invited to provide further guidance;
  • 17-21 May 2020: Taking into account the guidance provided by the 146th session of the WHO Executive Board, the 73rd World Health Assembly will be invited to consider the same or an updated menu of policy options and cost-effective interventions.
